The Theological Ethics of Martin Luther King

Micah Hart Harris

Description from DukeHub

King stated that “Human progress . . . comes through the tireless efforts of men willing to be co-workers with God.” In considering what this means, we will study 1) key sermons, speeches, and writings from Dr. King, 2) Biblical texts that shaped King’s theology and practice, 3) select readings from the Christian ethical tradition, 4) related writings from King’s discourse community, and 5) select scholarship on King’s place in the Christian ethics and natural law traditions. Key themes will include what it means to be a person, whether (and how) coercive justice can serve as an expression of love, and how human institutions can participate in, or oppose, the work of God in the world.

Skills

No skill passed the confidence bar. Weak matches go to review instead of this page: an AI pass that has to quote the description, then a person.

The checks lean on Microsoft Research, Working with AI (2025), which found generative AI applies least to physical work and hands-on work with people. A signal, not a promise. How the score works
