What this site records
This is a personal portfolio. It keeps a small analytics log so I can see whether anyone is reading it. No account, no advertising network, nothing sold to anyone.
Recorded on each visit
- Time of the visit and which page was opened
- IP address, and what it implies: approximate city, postal code and city-level coordinates, and the network it belongs to (an internet provider, university or company). Never your device’s own location. The network comes from one lookup per IP at ipwho.is, a public IP directory, cached here for 30 days.
- The site or link that referred you here, if any, plus the page and referrer of your first visit in the last 30 days
- Browser, operating system, device type, language, screen size, time zone
- How long the page stayed open, and how far down it you scrolled
- Clicks on links that lead off this site: the destination only, and only for links on these pages
Not recorded
Nothing about your browsing outside this site. No history, no tracking across other websites, no fingerprinting, no cross-site identifiers, and no advertising profiles. Two random ids live in your browser’s storage for this site only: one for the open tab, so repeat page loads count as one visit, and one kept for 30 days, so a return visit is recognised as the same reader. If your browser sends Global Privacy Control, the 30-day id is never created and each tab stands alone.
If you got here from an email I sent
Links in my outreach emails carry a tag identifying who I sent them to, so I can tell whether a message was useful to the person who received it. Short links of the form aher.dev/go/… record the click before forwarding you. Those emails may also contain a tracking pixel that records when the message was opened, the same mechanism nearly every mail tool uses. Reply asking me to stop and I will remove you from any further tagging.
Google Analytics and Vercel
The site also loads Vercel Web Analytics, which counts pageviews without cookies or cross-site identifiers, and Google Analytics 4, which collects its own aggregated traffic statistics under Google’s privacy policy.
Retention and opt-out
The log is kept for 30 days and then rolls off. Any browser setting or extension that blocks analytics requests will block this too, and the site works exactly the same either way. To have a visit removed, or to ask what is stored, email jaideepaher3@gmail.com.
