On Violence
Fadi Abdo Bardawil
Description from DukeHub
Introduce students to conceptual and empirical studies of violence in colonial and imperial contexts. They will help shed light on the historical development of societies in the Middle East and their global connections. In doing so, it will engage an in-depth analysis of scholarly works which belong to multiple disciplines - such as history, anthropology, and Middle Eastern studies - as well as those that straddle different disciplines - critical theory, anti-colonial and post-colonial theory. Students will also explore the different politics of representation of colonial and imperial violence during which time, I will supplement scholarly works with those from the creative arts, .eg. novels, films.
